“The self-titled half-hour CD of the Austrian group Radian starts off with no discernible structure, which is then subject to scalpel-sharp examination. Beats join in, which then form springy grooves. Unforseeably, but absolutely logically, a connection becomes apparent. Not much happens, but what does happen is executed in such a concentrated, compelling and austere way that is certainly the best of all possible bare essentials. The set-up for this experiment consists of analogue electronics, drums, bass and sampler. The drums sound marvellously pure, and I have seldom heard analogue instruments dovetail with electronics to such a thought-out degree. It’s uncanny how these boys know exactly what they’re doing. This is no romantic pursuit of interfaces, but hard work on form itself. The term “postrock” should be revised to “post-techno”. The closing murmur-and-crackle remix comes from the MEGO virus, Rehberg & Bauer, and is most likely their best work — which in turn only speaks in favor of the source material!”[Felix Klopotek, Spex, 1998]
