Rote Wueste
“The source material of Rote Wueste has a long history, which dates back to 2006, when the original Super 8 footage was shot in Brasilia. Although there was a rough concept for a short movie, the actual social and political situation in Brazil changed my mind significantly. As a result, the original approach to the material felt obsolete and the music I was planning at that time felt wrong. Therefore, it happened that the S8 film reels stayed in the archive for several years until the new Innode record was close to being finished. Somehow, I thought of the digital copy of the footage on a hard drive, while listening to different studio takes from the album “Syn”. I was scrolling through the movie scenes and the combination of the track “Rote Wueste” with the S8 material instantly felt right: finally, things were coming together and I started the film editing. Ironically, during the compositional process of the music I was loosely referring to a movie by Michelangelo Antonioni, namely “Il deserto rosso / red desert”, and now the red soil on which Brasilia has been built, made a new connection with the music. “Rote Wueste” connected with “Il deserto rosso” and the red desert.
